Why Loose Tea is Simply Better

and Plastic-Free by Nature

💡Tips from the CoffeeNose👃

I love good coffee — but also drink a lot of tea. And just like coffee, quality tea starts with freshness, good ingredients, and respect for the planet. That’s why I prefer loose leaf tea over industrial teabags every single time.

Here’s why loose tea is better in taste, quality, and sustainability, and how you can make it just as easily at home.

🌿 1. Whole leaves = better flavour and aroma

Most commercial teabags are filled with dust and fannings — tiny broken particles left over from tea production. These release harsh tannins and lose aroma quickly.

Loose tea, on the other hand, contains whole or large leaf grades that open up when brewed. You get all the essential oils, layered aroma, and sweetness that define real tea.

At WB.coffee we hand-select teas like our Weesper Winter Blend and Pampus Island Breakfast, made from full Assam leaves, fruit, and spices — no dust, no artificial flavors, just clean taste.

🌍 2. Loose tea is plastic-free (and refill-ready)

Most supermarket teabags contain hidden plastic — either polypropylene sealing layers or nylon mesh pyramids that never fully break down. Every cup you brew releases microplastics into hot water.

Loose tea avoids all that.

Our teas come in plastic-free, recyclable kraft pouches and are part of the WB.coffee refill program in Weesp–Amsterdam. Bring your empty bag or jar and refill it — zero waste, zero guilt.

🫖 3. Brewing loose tea is easier than you think

All you need is:

  • atea strainer, infuser, orLargo glass dripper
  • 2–3 grams of tea per cup (about one teaspoon)
  • 90–95°C water for black teas or 80°C for green teas
  • 3–5 minutes steep time depending on taste

That’s it — no single-use packaging, no teabag waste, and full control over flavour strength.

For groups or tastings, we use loose tea in glass teapots so everyone can see the leaves bloom — it’s part of the experience.

🍊 4. Better tea, better planet

When you buy loose, sustainably sourced tea, you’re supporting producers who care about fair pay, soil health, and natural processing.

You’re also reducing waste from teabag manufacturing, outer wrappings, and box packaging.

It’s a small daily choice with a big long-term effect — just like switching from pods to real beans.

💬 Final tip from The CoffeeNose

Once you switch to loose tea, you’ll never go back.

Try starting with our Weesper Winter Blend, Pampus Island Breakfast, or Tea Tasting Set (4 styles) — all designed for easy, plastic-free brewing with full sensory flavor.

You’ll taste the difference after the very first cup.
