Airflow Scales – Coffee Scale – 2000 g / 0.1 g

⚖️ Simple, Precise Coffee Weighing – Without Unnecessary Complexity

The Airflow Coffee Scale does the things a good coffee scale actually needs to do:

⚖️ Weigh accurately to 0.1 g

📦 Handle up to 2,000 g

⏱️ Time your brew

☕ Fit into everyday espresso and filter workflows

No complicated ecosystem required.

No need to connect your morning coffee to your phone.

Just a compact scale with enough capacity and precision for almost every normal coffee-brewing task.

Scott Rao describes the Airflow Scale as a 2 kg / 0.1 g scale for almost any coffee brewing, with an integrated timer and selectable grams, millilitres and ounces.

📋 Quick Menu

  • ⚖️ 0.1 g resolution
  • 📦 2,000 g maximum capacity
  • ⏱️ Integrated brewing timer
  • 🔢 Units: g / ml / oz
  • ☕ Suitable for espresso
  • 💧 Excellent for pour-over
  • 🌀 AeroPress friendly
  • ☕ Moccamaster & batch-brew use
  • 🧪 Great for recipe development
  • 👨‍🍳 Useful at home or in a coffee bar
  • 👃 CoffeeNose brewing tips
  • 💧 Airflow brewing-equipment cross-sells
  • 🫘 WB.coffee specialty-coffee pairings
  • 🎓 Workshops @ Amsterdam Coffee Lab

⚖️ 0.1 Gram Resolution

Coffee recipes become much easier to reproduce when you stop measuring with:

🥄 scoops

and start measuring with:

⚖️ grams.

The Airflow Scale reads in increments of:

0.1 g

which is precise enough for:

🫘 Espresso doses

☕ Filter-coffee doses

💧 Brew water

⚖️ Espresso yield

🧪 Recipe comparison

🌱 Small water/mineral experiments

while retaining enough capacity for a complete manual-brewing setup.

📦 2,000 Gram Capacity

Maximum capacity:

2 kg / 2,000 g

That gives you enough headroom for considerably more than simply weighing coffee beans.

Put the scale underneath:

☕ A V60 + server

🚀 Pulsar + mug

🌸 ORIGAMI + carafe

🌀 AeroPress + cup

☕ A larger filter brewer

and you still have useful weighing range available.

This combination of:

0.1 g resolution

  •

2,000 g capacity

is what makes it such a practical general-purpose coffee scale.

👃 CoffeeNose – Why 0.1 g Actually Matters

Do you need 0.1 g resolution when pouring:

400 g of water?

Not really.

But it becomes much more useful when measuring:

🫘 15.0 g coffee

instead of:

somewhere between 14 and 16 g.

For espresso the difference becomes even more noticeable.

Compare:

17.2 g

with

18.0 g

inside the same basket.

That small change influences:

📏 Puck depth

💧 Flow resistance

⏱️ Extraction

☕ Brew ratio

So the scale isn't about obsessing over decimals.

It's about eliminating one variable.

⏱️ Integrated Timer

Weight alone only tells half the story.

The Airflow Scale also includes a timer, so you can track water and time from the same device.

For filter coffee that means watching:

💧 Water weight

alongside:

⏱️ Pour / brew time.

For espresso:

⚖️ Beverage yield

alongside:

⏱️ Shot time.

Much easier than simultaneously watching:

📱 your phone

⚖️ a kitchen scale

☕ your brewer

while trying not to pour water across the counter.

☕ Espresso – Measure Input and Output

For espresso, a scale lets you stop thinking in vague volumes such as:

“one espresso”

and start working with a recipe.

For example:

🫘 Dose

18.0 g

☕ Espresso yield

40 g

📊 Brew ratio

Approximately 1 : 2.2

⏱️ Time

Record it as useful diagnostic information.

Then taste.

👃 CoffeeNose Tip – Time Isn't the Target

A 28-second espresso is not automatically better than a 24-second espresso.

Time tells you:

what happened.

Taste tells you:

whether it was good.

Use the scale to control:

⚖️ dose

⚖️ yield

and use the timer to monitor:

⏱️ flow.

Then adjust the grinder based on the result in the cup.

💧 Pour-Over – Control Your Recipe

The Airflow Scale is particularly useful underneath manual brewers.

Imagine a recipe:

🫘 Coffee

15 g

💧 Water

250 g

📊 Ratio

1 : 16.7

Now you can reproduce that recipe tomorrow.

And the day after.

If the coffee tastes different after changing the grind, you know you didn't accidentally change the water quantity at the same time.

That's how brewing experiments become useful.

🌸 Great for V60

Pair the Airflow Scale with a Hario V60 or the Airflow metal V60 and monitor each pour.

For example:

Bloom

0 → 50 g

Second phase

50 → 150 g

Final phase

150 → 250 g

The scale turns:

“pour a little more”

into something measurable.

🚀 Great with the NextLevel Pulsar

A scale becomes even more useful with a brewer like the NextLevel Pulsar, where you can deliberately control:

💧 Water quantity

⏱️ Contact time

🚰 Valve opening

⚙️ Grind size

🌀 Agitation

while keeping your recipe repeatable.

Change one variable.

Taste.

Then change the next.

That's much more informative than reinventing the recipe every morning.

🌀 AeroPress

The Airflow Scale also makes AeroPress recipes much easier to reproduce.

Measure:

🫘 Coffee

💧 Water

⏱️ Steep time

and suddenly:

“my AeroPress tasted amazing yesterday”

can become:

“I know exactly what I did yesterday.”

That is progress.

☕ Moccamaster

Yes—a scale is useful with an automatic brewer too.

Instead of:

🥄 six scoops

try:

60 g coffee

  •

1 litre water

as a starting point.

Then adjust for taste.

Want it stronger?

Change the ratio deliberately.

Want to understand why it changed?

Keep everything else constant.

🔢 Grams, Millilitres & Ounces

The Airflow Scale offers weighing/display modes for:

g – grams

ml – millilitres

oz – ounces.

For specialty-coffee brewing we generally recommend:

grams

because coffee recipes become much easier to communicate and reproduce.

Water is conveniently close to 1 g per ml under ordinary brewing conditions, but weighing is still easier and more consistent than trying to visually read a measuring jug.

👃 CoffeeNose – Use Grams for Everything

A surprisingly useful habit:

measure coffee in grams.

measure water in grams.

measure espresso in grams.

Then all the important numbers speak the same language.

For example:

Filter

15 g → 250 g

Espresso

18 g → 40 g

Simple.

Comparable.

Repeatable.

🎨 Available Colour Combinations

Scott Rao currently lists three Airflow Scale colour combinations:

⚫ Black body / black pad

⚪ White body / grey pad

🟢 Black body / green pad

Regional availability varies. Rao's current product information specifically restricts some versions depending on destination, so the WB.coffee variant selector should be considered the reference for colours actually available from us.

💧 Keep the setup simple.

Combine:

⚖️ Airflow Scale

💧 Airflow V60

📄 Filter paper

🫖 Pouring kettle

🫘 Fresh coffee

and you already have everything essential for excellent manual filter coffee.

No Bluetooth required.

🫖 Airflow Swallow-Tail Kettle

Scott Rao's Airflow line also includes the compact Swallow-Tail 300 ml kettle.

The combination gives you:

⚖️ Control over water quantity

⏱️ Control over timing

💧 Control over pouring

which are three much more useful brewing variables than having twenty automatic scale modes you never use.

🫗 Airflow Glass Carafe

Brewing several cups or want to swirl the complete brew before serving?

Pair your scale and dripper with an Airflow glass carafe.

A server also makes it easier to homogenise the brew:

gently swirl

before pouring.

The liquid extracted at the start of a filter brew does not have exactly the same concentration as the liquid extracted at the end.

A quick swirl helps mix the complete beverage.

⚙️ A Good Grinder

The scale controls:

quantity.

The grinder controls:

particle size.

Both matter.

Pair the Airflow Scale with a grinder suited to your workflow, such as:

⚙️ Comandante C40

⚙️ Fellow Opus 2

⚙️ Hario Smart G PRO

⚙️ A dedicated electric filter grinder

depending on budget and brewing style.

💧 Don't Forget the Water

Once you can repeat:

⚖️ coffee dose

💧 water quantity

⏱️ brew time

⚙️ grind

you may start noticing how much the water itself changes your coffee.

Explore:

💧 Lotus Water Drops

⚗️ Coffee-water recipes

🧂 Mineral composition

to understand the influence of:

magnesium, calcium, bicarbonate and alkalinity

on extraction and flavour.

🍓 Coffee Pairing – FJ Fruity & Juicy

A great coffee for experimenting with recipes:

FJ – Fruity & Juicy

Try the same beans at:

1 : 15

then:

1 : 16

then:

1 : 17.

Keep grind and technique constant.

Taste how concentration and balance change.

That's what a good scale allows you to explore.

🌸 FF – Fruity & Floral

For more aromatic filter coffee:

FF – Fruity & Floral

Use precise recipes to explore:

🌸 Florals

🍑 Fruit

🍋 Acidity

🍯 Sweetness

without accidentally changing the dose every brew.

🌍 Single Origins

Precision becomes even more worthwhile when you're brewing an exceptional coffee.

Try the Airflow Scale with:

🍓 Kenya Currant Crush

🌸 Ethiopia Guji Majesty

💎 Guatemala Geisha – Finca Inferno

🍊 Fernando Díaz Orange Bourbon

🍍 Pineapple Express

🌍 Changing WB.coffee single origins

and write down the recipe when you find the sweet spot.

Because:

“That coffee was incredible”

is useful.

But:

“15 g / 250 g / grind 24 / 94°C / 2:45”

is repeatable.

🎓 Pour ’n Drip – Manual Brewing Workshop

Want to understand what all these numbers actually mean?

Join Pour ’n Drip at Amsterdam Coffee Lab in Weesp.

Explore:

⚖️ Coffee-to-water ratio

⚙️ Grind size

💧 Pour rate

🌀 Agitation

🌡️ Temperature

⏱️ Contact time

📄 Filter paper

👅 Extraction & flavour

The objective is not to make you obsess over numbers.

The objective is to understand which numbers matter—and when to ignore them and simply taste.

🎓 Press It Real Good – AeroPress Workshop

The same scale can then go underneath your AeroPress.

Learn how changes in:

⚖️ Dose

💧 Water quantity

🌡️ Temperature

⏱️ Steep time

🌀 Agitation

⚙️ Grind

alter the result.

Once you've found a recipe you love:

write it down.

Repeat it.

❤️ Why We Like the Airflow Scale at WB.coffee

Coffee scales have become strangely complicated.

Some now have:

📱 Apps

📈 Graphs

☁️ Accounts

🔵 Bluetooth

🧮 More modes than you can remember

Those things can be useful.

But none of them make up for the basics.

A coffee scale primarily needs to:

weigh accurately

and

show time.

The Airflow gives you:

⚖️ 0.1 g resolution

📦 2 kg capacity

⏱️ a timer

at a deliberately straightforward level. Scott Rao himself describes it simply as suitable for almost any coffee brewing.

That's what we like about it.

It provides enough information to become a better brewer without turning every cup of coffee into a software project.

CoffeeNose verdict 👃

Use the scale to become consistent.

Then use your nose and tongue to decide whether that consistency is worth repeating.

Numbers make coffee reproducible.

Taste tells you whether you should reproduce it.
