SCA Introduction to Coffee

At Amsterdam Coffee Lab we run this course over 1 day (6 hours) to ensure enough time for practice and experiments.

Learn about Coffee’s journey from its origins in Ethiopia to the major commodity it is today. From growing the coffee cherries through harvesting, processing, sourcing, grading, roasting and brewing, this module of the Coffee Skills Program provides an overview of the coffee chain from seed to cup.

In this course you will learn about:
  • The history of coffee
  • The journey from seed to coffee cherry to coffee beverage
  • The difference between commercial and specialty grade coffee
  • The difference between Arabica and Robusta coffee
  • The basic tastes a human can identify
  • Coffee roasting – introduction
  • Coffee brewing – introduction
During the course you will also taste and brew different coffees.
➔ The Trainer
The trainer for this course is Wouter Brunia (the CoffeeNose), Authorized SCA Trainer.
➔ Requirements
SCA CSP Introduction to coffee requires no previous experience.
➔ Covid Requirements
Complaince with our Covid policy is required. Students need to present proof of vaccination or a PCR test.
➔ Certification
The exam consists of a series of practical tests/exams and an online theory exam with a pass rate of 60% required.
After passing the exam you will be awarded the SCA CSP Introduction to coffee certificate and earn 10 points towards your coffee diploma.
➔ Course time
This course will run from 09:30-17:00, including lunch and breaks.
➔ Course fee
€195 including 21% VAT/BTW / with SCA CSP certificate. This is the price for SCA members.
€115 including 21% VAT/BTW / course only.

➔ Practical
Maximum of six people on this course. No minimum number for courses to run. If there are no suitable dates showing, please contact us for further information.
The course will be in English with Dutch translation available.
➔ Location
The course will take place at our brand new Lab & training location in Weesp (Amsterdam municipality). It is located 5 minutes from Weesp NS train station and we have parking on-site.
➔ Hotel info
