Ceramic cupping bowls are far from perfect. They are expensive to ship, break down easily, and steal heat energy from the coffee. These new cupping bowls solve all these problems in one fell swoop.Matt Perger personally designed every cubic millimeter, and sought out the specific material, so that these bowls do not pose any disadvantage. Accurate Each bowl has exactly the same volume, down to the milliliter. They are designed so that ~12 grams of ground coffee and 200 grams of boiling water are right below the edge. Accurate pouring without a scale is possible, but of course we recommend weighing each bowl. Temperature Weighing only ~45g, these bowls will only lose 5°C of water temperature when filled. An average ceramic bowl of 200 grams immediately sucks up 13°C. Whether you use boiling water or 93.58°C, your coffee is produced more consistently and closer to the set temperature point. The decrease in temperature over time will remain fairly similar to that of ceramics, since the water surface is the place where most of the heat is lost over time. You can also pick up these bowls immediately after pouring your scales without burning your fingers! Stackable They have added 6 wings under the lip, so you can easily stack them for efficient storage and transport without worries. They also completely deflate and dry themselves when stacked upside down after washing! Almost Unbreakable Resistant to any fall from the cupping lab table, or from the side of a cliff when visiting in coffee origin. You can probably break the legs with a well-placed golf club, but that's not the SCA cupping space protocol. You can always try with a cupping spoon. 100% food safe No fillers, dyes, allergens, heavy metals or toxic mold formers. BPA free, no phthalates, and no androgenic or similar suspicious chemicals. Here's the datasheet for the exact plastic we're using. It is FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 3.2a certified for food contact without temperature or food-type limits. 100% recyclable HDPE was chosen because it is 100% recyclable with current techniques. The "2" in the triangle at the bottom tells your local recycling company what they are made of for efficient processing. That said, these bowls should last a lifetime. Taste- and odor-freeHDPE is what commercial cutting boards, water pipes and milk bottles are made of. It does not retain water and does not loogt anything out in the water.
