1. Height Above the Countertop = 8cm
💡The CoffeeNose👃: From an ergonomic standpoint, this height is ideal, mirroring the position where portafilters are placed beneath the grinder chute. Unlike other automatic portafilter cleaners that are designed too low, resembling a pitcher rinser, this design may appear tidier but compromises the angle necessary for effective portafilter cleaning. This can lead to wrist strain for baristas, as well as bent cleaning brushes and less-than-satisfactory results. With Kaffee klar, you can enjoy a seamless cleaning experience that integrates effortlessly into a barista's workflow, ensuring both comfort and cleanliness.
2. Depth Below the Countertop (Clearance)
This is the most critical measurement for your kitchen or coffee bar installation.
- Total unit depth: The cylinder itself is roughly 170 mm long.
- Required clearance: You should allow for at least 180 mm to 190 mm (approx. 7.5 inches) of vertical space under the countertop to accommodate the housing and the power cable exit at the bottom.
Technical Specifications for Installation
| Feature | Dimension |
| Visible Flange Height | 10–15 mm |
| In-counter Depth | 170 mm (allow 180+ mm for cables) |
| Cut-out Diameter (Hole) | 114 mm (standard) to 120 mm |
| Outer Flange Diameter | 135 mm |
| Power Supply | 12V / 24V DC (Adapter included) |
Installation Considerations
- The "Mess" Factor: Remember that since this is built-in, the coffee grounds fall into a collection container under the counter. Make sure your cabinetry allows easy access to empty this container without having to disassemble the whole unit.
- Stability: Ensure the countertop is thick enough (usually minimum 20 mm) to support the flange, though the unit is relatively light.
The KaffeeKlar is famous for its "universal" brush design, but there are nuances based on your basket size:
| Basket Size | Compatibility | Notes |
| 58 mm / 58.5 mm | Perfect | Optimized for E61, VST, Pullman, and Decent baskets. |
| 57 mm | Excellent | Fits some Lelit and Ascaso baskets perfectly. |
| 53 mm / 54 mm | Good | Fits Sage/Breville (54mm) and Dalla Corte/La Spaziale (53mm). The brushes may wear slightly unevenly but cleaning is still effective. |
| Single Baskets | Limited | Deep single-shot baskets work fine; shallow "funnel" style single baskets might not reach the brushes effectively. |
Note on Bottomless Portafilters: The KaffeeKlar works best with bottomless (naked) portafilters. If you use a spouted portafilter, it will still work, but you have to be more careful with the angle to ensure the brushes hit the bottom of the basket.
3. Maintenance Tip
To keep the motor running smoothly, the brushes should be replaced every 15,000 to 20,000 cycles. You can usually tell it's time when the bristles start looking "flared" out like an old toothbrush, which reduces the cleaning efficiency.

Under counter bin
Rhino Thumpa 300 (Benchtop/Small): At 300 mm tall, this is an excellent choice for a cabinet bin. Even with the KaffeeKlar unit taking up the top 18 cm, you will still have a gap of about 20–30 cm between the bottom of the cleaner and the top of the bin (assuming a standard cabinet). This gap is actually helpful for air circulation and seeing when the bin is full.
If you use a Rhino Thumpa as your collection bin under the KaffeeKlar, you must remove the knock bar.
- The grounds fall vertically from the center of the KaffeeKlar.
- The Thumpa’s knock bar sits directly in the middle of the opening and will catch grounds, leading to a messy buildup and potentially clogging the cleaner’s brushes.
- Good News: The Thumpa is designed with "slotted bar inserts," so the bar and its rubber sleeve slide out easily without tools.
The "Tubular" Container
KaffeeKlar offers an official Tubular Coffee Grounds Container (Ref.: 008235).
- It is a narrow, stainless steel or heavy-duty plastic tube designed to mount directly to the bottom of the unit or sit precisely beneath it.
- It is thinner than the Rhino Thumpa, making it better if you have a lot of plumbing (like a sink or pitcher rinser) nearby in the same cabinet.
