Baratza confirms that this specific M2 Quick-Release burr is only compatible with the Encore ESP and Encore ESP Pro.

🔓 Quick-Release M2 Burr

One of the smartest changes Baratza made when developing the Encore ESP was changing the central cone burr to a Quick-Release system.

Instead of having to remove a tightly threaded burr from the drive shaft, the ESP system allows the cone burr to be removed much more easily.

That makes:

🧼 Cleaning

🔍 Inspection

⚙️ Burr replacement

🔧 Routine grinder maintenance

more accessible for the home user.

A coffee grinder should be maintainable.

Not disposable.

⚙️ 40 mm Steel Conical Burr

The M2 is a 40 mm steel cone burr.

Together with the surrounding ring burr it forms the actual grinding system:

🫘 Whole beans enter

⬇️

⚙️ Wide upper cutting surfaces pull and pre-cut the beans

⬇️

🔬 Coffee moves through progressively finer cutting surfaces

⬇️

☕ The distance between cone and ring determines the final grind range

Baratza describes its 40 mm conical-burr architecture as producing balanced, sweet cups, with the upper auger sections drawing beans into the finer cutting surfaces below.

☕ Espresso + Filter

The M2 burr system is one of the reasons the Encore ESP can cover such a broad range.

The Encore ESP itself was designed specifically to provide:

☕ Fine-resolution espresso adjustment

while still being able to move towards:

🌀 AeroPress

💧 V60

☕ Moccamaster

🫙 French press

Baratza uses the Quick-Release M2 steel burr as one of the defining components of the Encore ESP platform.

🔧 When Should You Replace the Cone Burr?

Steel burrs normally last a long time.

Do not replace a burr simply because your grinder is a few years old.

Consider replacement when you can identify:

⚠️ Physical damage

⚙️ Chipped cutting edges

🪨 Damage from foreign objects

🔧 Excessive mechanical wear

☕ Noticeably degraded grinding performance after other causes have been eliminated

Before blaming the burr, check:

🧼 Is the grinder clean?

⚙️ Is the ring burr correctly seated?

🔩 Is the burr holder intact?

🌀 Is the paddle wheel working correctly?

💨 Is the exit chute blocked?

⚖️ Are calibration shims correctly installed?

🫘 Are you using extremely oily beans?

A slow or inconsistent grinder does not automatically need new burrs.

Diagnose first.

Replace second.

⚠️ Quick-Release M2 vs Threaded M2

This distinction is extremely important.

Baratza currently sells two different M2 cone-burr designs.

🔓 M2 Quick-Release – SP0102055

For:

✅ Encore ESP

✅ Encore ESP Pro

This is the product on this page.

🔩 M2 Threaded – SP0101069

For selected:

☕ Original Encore

☕ Virtuoso+

☕ Older compatible Baratza conical-burr grinders

❌ The threaded M2 is NOT the correct cone burr for the Encore ESP.

They may both be called:

M2

and both may be:

40 mm steel conical burrs

but the mounting system is different.

Order according to your exact grinder model, not simply the name M2.

🆚 Compatibility at a Glance

Baratza grinderThis M2 Quick-Release Cone
Encore ESP
Encore ESP Pro

If you're uncertain which Baratza you own:

📸 Send WB.coffee a photo of the grinder and product label.

We would much rather identify the part before shipping it than sell you something that doesn't fit.

⚠️ Don't Forget the Ring Burr

A conical grinder works with two cutting components:

⚙️ Central cone burr

and

⭕ Outer ring burr.

Replacing only the cone does not automatically renew the complete burr set.

Inspect both components.

But be careful:

the ring-burr components are model-specific too.

⭕ Encore ESP Ring Burr & Holder

The standard Encore ESP uses its own ring-burr mounting components.

The correct Baratza components include:

Ring Burr Holder – Encore ESP

SP0102053

and

ESP Ring Burr + Holder

SP0102054

These are specifically intended for the Encore ESP.

⚠️ Encore ESP Pro Uses Different Ring-Burr Parts

The newer Encore ESP Pro does not use exactly the same ring-burr holder as the Encore ESP.

It has dedicated components including:

ESP Pro Ring Burr Holder

SP0108593

and

ESP Pro Ring Burr + Holder

SP0108594

So even though this SP0102055 Quick-Release cone burr fits both grinders, you cannot assume all surrounding burr components are interchangeable.

👃 CoffeeNose rule:

Match every replacement part to the exact grinder model.

🔧 What About Baratza Part 6170 / Older M2 Ring Burrs?

You may find older Baratza components online described as:

M2 Ring Burr / 6170

These belong to older generations of Baratza's conical-burr ecosystem.

Do not automatically combine an older 6170-style ring burr or conventional Encore holder with an Encore ESP simply because the description mentions “M2”.

For an Encore ESP or ESP Pro, we recommend using the model-specific current components.

🧼 Clean First – Replace When Necessary

Before installing new burrs, this is the ideal moment to clean the complete accessible grinding chamber.

Coffee leaves behind:

☕ Fine particles

🟤 Coffee oils

🌪️ Dust

🫘 Small fragments

Over time, those residues can influence:

⚙️ Grinder performance

💨 Coffee flow through the chute

👃 Aroma

☕ Flavour

A new burr installed inside a filthy grinder is only half a maintenance job.

🧼 Cross-Sell – Professional Grinder Cleaner

Don't compromise on flavour or equipment longevity.

Use a professional grinder cleaner periodically according to the cleaner and grinder instructions.

Grinder-cleaning products can help remove coffee oils and residue from areas reached during grinding.

Particularly useful if you regularly grind:

🍫 Medium-dark espresso

🫘 Oily beans

☕ Large quantities of coffee

Important

Use only products specifically intended for coffee grinders and follow the dosing instructions.

💨 Cross-Sell – Baratza Grinder Bellows

A bellows / blow-up cleaner is a brilliantly simple addition to a Baratza grinder.

Use controlled air to help move loose coffee particles from:

⚙️ Burr chamber

💨 Exit chute

🫘 Grounds pathway

This is especially useful before opening the grinder for deeper maintenance.

It can also help reduce the amount of loose coffee remaining in the grinder after use.

Remember

A bellows helps remove loose grounds.

It does not dissolve old coffee oils.

That's why brushing and periodic deeper cleaning remain useful.

🧹 Cross-Sell – Rhino Grinder Bench Brush

One of our favourite simple coffee-bar tools:

Rhino Coffee Gear Grinder Bench Brush

Use it for:

☕ Loose coffee grounds

⚙️ Grinder area

🧹 Countertop

⚖️ Dosing station

A proper brush makes it considerably more likely that you'll actually clean the grinder regularly.

And regular five-second cleaning beats an enormous cleanup once every six months.

🥤 Cross-Sell – Rhino Dosing Cup

A dosing cup is useful with the Encore ESP workflow.

Grind into the cup.

Then:

  1. ⚖️ Check your dose.
  2. 🔄 Transfer it into the portafilter.
  3. 🌀 Distribute.
  4. 🔘 Tamp.
  5. ☕ Brew.

The Rhino short dosing cup provides a clean, simple way to move ground coffee into the basket without covering your counter in coffee.

🥃 Cross-Sell – Rhino Shot Glass

A small spouted shot glass is useful when dialing in espresso.

Measure:

⚖️ Espresso yield

👀 Extraction volume

☕ Split shots

🧪 Recipe experiments

Pair it with an espresso scale and you have a simple way to monitor exactly what your grinder adjustments are doing.

⚠️ Food-Grade Lubricant – Use Only Where Appropriate

We also stock food-grade silicone lubricant / grease for compatible coffee-equipment maintenance.

However:

❌ DO NOT lubricate the burr cutting surfaces.

Grease should never be smeared across the M2 cone or ring burr.

It can contaminate coffee and collect grounds.

Only apply lubricant to a component when:

🔧 The service procedure calls for it

📖 The manufacturer permits it

⭕ It is being used on an appropriate seal, O-ring or mechanical interface

and use only a tiny amount.

If you're unsure:

ask us before applying it.

🔧 Replacement Parts Are a Baratza Strength

One of the reasons we continue to like Baratza grinders is that individual components are available separately.

Depending on model, that includes parts such as:

⚙️ Burrs

⭕ Burr holders

🌀 Paddle wheels

🔩 Drive components

🫘 Hoppers

⚡ Electrical components

🥤 Grounds bins

🔘 Switches and controls

A worn €10–40 component should not necessarily condemn an entire grinder.

Repair it.

Clean it.

Keep using it.

That's better for:

💶 Your wallet

♻️ The environment

☕ Your coffee setup

Can't Find the Part You Need?

Drop us a line.

Not every Baratza component we can supply is listed online.

If the part is not currently in stock, we can often source it for you.

Send us:

📸 A photo of the grinder

🏷️ Exact model

🔢 Serial number if available

📸 Photo of the broken component

📝 Description of the problem

and we can help identify what you actually need.

That's an important part of buying coffee equipment from WB.coffee.

We don't only sell grinders.

We also help:

🔍 Diagnose

🔧 Repair

⚙️ Maintain

♻️ Extend equipment life

☕ Get the grinder working properly again

Sometimes the correct repair is a new burr.

Sometimes it's a €5 burr holder.

We would rather sell you the correct €5 component than an unnecessary new grinder.

👃 CoffeeNose Tip – After Replacing a Burr

Once the new cone burr is installed:

1. Check assembly

Make sure:

⚙️ Burr is correctly seated

⭕ Ring burr and holder are correctly installed

🔩 All components are properly positioned

2. Start coarser than expected

Do not immediately force the grinder to its finest possible position.

3. Run a small amount of coffee

This verifies that:

🫘 Beans feed correctly

⚙️ Burrs rotate normally

💨 Grounds exit normally

👂 No abnormal mechanical noise is present

4. Dial in again

Do not assume the old grind number will produce exactly the same result after replacing parts.

For espresso:

⚖️ Fix your dose

💧 Fix your target yield

⚙️ Adjust grind

👅 Taste

👃 Why We Like Baratza at WB.coffee

There are grinders with:

bigger displays,

more polished metal,

larger burrs,

and considerably higher prices.

But Baratza gets something very important right:

you can repair them.

A coffee grinder is a mechanical appliance.

Eventually:

⚙️ something wears

⭕ a holder breaks

🔧 a component needs replacing

🧼 the grinder needs maintenance

That should not automatically turn the whole machine into electronic waste.

The M2 Quick-Release burr is a perfect example.

Remove the worn or damaged component.

Install the correct replacement.

Clean the machine.

Dial in again.

Keep making coffee.

That's the kind of equipment ownership we support at WB.coffee. 👃🔧♻️
