Ceado Life WAM – Grind-by-Weight Espresso Grinder with XB50 Blind Burrs
⚖️ Grind by Weight Meets Near-Zero-Retention Burr Design
The Ceado Life WAM is a compact premium espresso grinder built around two ideas that matter enormously in the cup:
⚖️ Dose the coffee by actual weight, not just grinding time.
⚙️ Keep as little old coffee as possible trapped inside the grinder.
Ceado achieves this with its integrated WAM – Weight Based Dose Management system and innovative XB50 50 mm blind flat burrs.
The built-in load cell weighs the coffee during grinding and automatically controls the target dose, while the screwless burr design eliminates the conventional mounting holes where fine coffee particles can collect.
The result?
Fresh coffee.
Accurate doses.
Less waste.
More repeatable espresso. ☕✨

⚖️ WAM – Weight Based Dose Management
Stop Guessing How Much Coffee Came Out
Traditional on-demand grinders normally dose coffee according to grinding time.
For example:
7.4 seconds = approximately 18 grams
But “approximately” is the problem.
Grinding output can change because of:
🫘 Bean density
🔥 Roast level
📆 Coffee freshness
⚙️ Grind adjustment
🫘 Hopper pressure
🌦️ Humidity
☕ Changing to another coffee
The Ceado Life WAM uses an integrated load cell to measure the actual coffee delivered during grinding.
Set your desired dose and the grinder controls the output by weight.
This makes the weight of your coffee an actively controlled part of the recipe instead of an estimate based on time.
🎯 Why Grind by Weight Matters
A consistent espresso recipe starts with a consistent dry dose.
If yesterday's espresso used:
18.0 g coffee
and today's grinder unexpectedly delivers:
18.7 g
the same grind setting, extraction time and beverage weight will not necessarily produce the same flavour.
WAM helps eliminate that variation.
Benefits
✅ More repeatable espresso recipes
✅ Less coffee wasted checking doses
✅ Faster daily workflow
✅ Less need to adjust timer settings
✅ More consistent shots between users
✅ Easier switching between coffees
✅ Less reliance on a separate dosing scale
This is particularly valuable in a household where several people use the grinder.
Select the recipe.
Insert the portafilter.
Grind.
The grinder manages the dose. ⚖️
⚙️ XB50 Blind Flat Burrs
The Burr Design Is One of the Best Reasons to Consider the Life WAM
The Life WAM uses Ceado's proprietary XB50 50 mm blind flat burrs.
“Blind” means there are no exposed mounting screws or screw holes inside the active grinding surface.
On conventional flat burrs, these holes create small cavities where coffee particles can collect.
Coffee trapped there becomes older.
Old coffee oxidises.
And during the next grinding cycle, some of those stale particles can find their way into your fresh dose.
The XB50 design removes those cavities.
Less space for coffee to hide.
Less retention.
Fresher espresso. 👃
🕳️ Why Screw Holes Matter
A traditional flat burr needs screws to attach it to the burr carrier.
Those screws interrupt the grinding surface and create several small pockets.
During grinding, fines can collect:
🔩 Around screw heads
🕳️ Inside mounting recesses
⚙️ Between burr and carrier
☕ Around unused grinding surfaces
Ceado's blind design moves the mounting system away from the exposed grinding face.
That provides a more continuous grinding surface and eliminates several obvious retention points.
For us, this is not simply an engineering detail.
It directly supports the thing we actually care about:
☕ Fresher coffee in the next espresso.
📐 50 mm Burrs with the Grinding Surface of a 60 mm Burr
Removing the conventional screw holes has another advantage.
More of the 50 mm disc can actually be used for grinding.
Ceado states that the XB50 burrs provide a usable grinding surface comparable to conventional 60 mm flat burrs while retaining the smaller diameter and compact grinding chamber.
That gives the Life WAM an interesting combination:
⚙️ Compact 50 mm burr chamber
📐 Large effective cutting surface
✨ Reduced retention
🏠 Small grinder footprint
☕ Serious espresso performance
Burr diameter alone never tells the complete story.
Usable cutting geometry matters too.
🪽 XB50 Winged Burr Geometry
The XB50 burrs also use Ceado's distinctive winged geometry.
The design was developed to provide good productivity while maintaining a clean flavour profile.
Ceado positions the XB50 as a multi-purpose burr capable of producing clarity from espresso through coarser brewing methods.
In the Life WAM, however, we see its strongest role as:
☕ A precision espresso burr.
Expect the potential for:
🍯 Defined sweetness
🍫 Good body
🍓 Clear flavour separation
🌸 Aromatic definition
👅 Clean finish
🥛 Enough structure for milk drinks
The final result naturally depends on coffee, roast, water, machine and recipe.
✨ Low Retention + Grind by Weight = The Interesting Combination
Grind-by-weight becomes even more useful when the grinder itself retains very little coffee.
Imagine a grinder that weighs 18.0 grams perfectly but keeps a substantial amount of yesterday's coffee inside the chamber.
Technically, the dose may be accurate.
Sensory-wise, part of it may still be stale.
The Life WAM attacks both problems:
⚖️ WAM
Controls how much coffee enters the portafilter.
⚙️ Blind XB50 Burrs
Reduce the places where old coffee can remain trapped.
✨ Compact Grinding Chamber
Keeps the coffee pathway short.
Together, these features create a workflow focused on both:
dose consistency
and
coffee freshness.
That combination makes much more sense to us than simply adding an integrated scale to a high-retention grinder.
📱 2.4-Inch Colour Touchscreen
The Life WAM uses a modern 2.4-inch colour touchscreen for dose and grinder control.
The interface allows straightforward selection and adjustment of your grinding parameters.
Depending on the selected workflow, the display allows grinding to be managed in grams or seconds.
The interface colours can also be customised to suit your coffee setup.
Main functions
⚖️ Weight-based dosing
⏱️ Timed grinding options
☕ Two programmable recipes
🖐️ Manual dosing
🎨 Customisable display colours
▶️ Simple start and stop control
The goal is not to bury the home barista inside menus.
The interface remains intentionally simple.
🎯 Two Programmable Weight-Based Doses
Programme your most frequently used espresso recipes.
For example:
☕ Recipe 1
Single basket – 9.0 g
☕☕ Recipe 2
Double basket – 18.0 g
Place the portafilter in the holder and select the required recipe.
The WAM system manages the dose by weight.
Manual mode remains available when:
🧪 Dialling in a new coffee
⚙️ Testing a grind adjustment
☕ Using an unusual basket
⚖️ Experimenting with a different dose
👃 Why Low Retention Matters Even More with Specialty Coffee
Imagine buying:
💎 A rare Gesha
🍓 A Kenyan microlot
🍍 An anaerobic Bourbon
🌸 A washed Ethiopian single origin
and then wasting several grams every morning just to purge yesterday's coffee.
Not ideal.
Low retention means:
✅ Less coffee thrown away
✅ Less stale coffee entering the first espresso
✅ Easier changes between beans
✅ More useful tasting experiments
✅ Lower cost when brewing expensive coffees
For specialty coffee lovers, reducing retention isn't simply convenient.
It protects the coffee you've paid for.
🫘 Hopper Workflow Without the Typical Hopper-Grinder Compromise
Single-dose grinders are popular because they can reduce retention.
But not everyone wants to:
⚖️ Weigh beans
🫙 Open a container
🫘 Pour them into the grinder
🌬️ Operate a bellows
for every espresso.
The Life WAM gives you the convenience of an on-demand hopper grinder while Ceado's blind burrs and compact grinding chamber reduce the retention normally associated with that workflow.
Fill the hopper with the coffee you're drinking.
Select the required weight.
Grind directly into the portafilter.
For daily espresso, that's difficult to beat for convenience.
🫘 Approximately 300 g Hopper
The bean hopper holds approximately 300 grams of coffee.
That's convenient when:
☕ You use the same espresso blend every day
👨👩👧 Several people use the machine
🏠 You prepare multiple drinks each morning
🥛 Cappuccino and espresso are prepared throughout the day
CoffeeNose Tip
Just because the hopper holds 300 grams doesn't mean you need to fill it completely.
For maximum freshness, add only the amount of coffee you'll realistically use within the next few days.
Keep the rest sealed in:
🫙 A vacuum coffee canister
👜 The original WB.coffee bag
🌑 A cool and dark location
The hopper gives you convenience.
Fresh storage preserves flavour.

👃 CoffeeNose Tip – Weight In, Weight Out
The integrated scale controls the coffee going into the espresso basket.
You still need another scale to measure what comes out of the espresso machine.
A useful starting point:
⚖️ Dose
18.0 g coffee
💧 Espresso yield
36–45 g espresso
The Life WAM automatically controls the 18 grams.
Place a compact espresso scale beneath the cup to measure the beverage weight.
Then taste.
Sour, thin or too fast?
⚙️ Grind finer.
Bitter, dry or too slow?
⚙️ Grind coarser.
Sweet, balanced and expressive?
❤️ Save the recipe.
The integrated scale makes your input consistent.
Your espresso scale measures the output.
Your tongue determines whether it tastes good. 👃
🛍️ Cross-Sell – Espresso Scale

❤️ Why We Like It at WB.coffee
There are plenty of grinders with integrated scales now.
The Ceado Life WAM is interesting because the scale isn't the whole story.
For us, the combination matters:
⚖️ Grind by Weight
The grinder actively controls how much coffee goes into the basket.
⚙️ Blind XB50 Burrs
The burrs eliminate traditional screw holes where coffee particles can collect.
✨ Compact Low-Retention Chamber
The pathway is designed to keep less old coffee trapped inside the grinder.
Those three elements complement each other beautifully.
An accurate 18.0 gram dose is far more meaningful when most of those 18 grams are actually freshly ground coffee rather than fresh coffee mixed with yesterday's retained grounds.
We also like Ceado's approach to the burr diameter.
Instead of simply advertising the biggest possible number, the XB50 design uses the available surface intelligently. Removing the screw holes gives a 50 mm burr a grinding area comparable to many conventional 60 mm burrs while keeping the grinder compact.
That's smart engineering rather than specification-sheet marketing.
For the home barista who drinks espresso every day and wants:
⚖️ consistency
✨ freshness
🫘 hopper convenience
🏠 compact dimensions
👅 excellent flavour potential
the Life WAM is a very compelling grinder.
