A spring-loaded tamper with a properly seated leveling collar is one of the simplest ways to eliminate an important variable in espresso preparation: inconsistent tamping.
By keeping the tamper level with the basket rim, you reduce the risk of creating an uneven puck. Combine this with a good WDT tool to distribute the ground coffee before tamping.

The goal isn't maximum tamping force. It's a consistently compressed, level coffee bed.
CoffeeNose insight: A self-leveling tamper can reduce tamping-related inconsistencies, but it cannot guarantee zero channeling. Grind quality, distribution, basket geometry and puck preparation still matter.
This version is designed for compatible 58 mm espresso filter baskets, including many E61-style setups.
The 58.35 mm diameter provides a close fit in appropriately sized precision baskets, helping reduce the untamped ring of coffee near the basket wall.
Always check the internal diameter and geometry of your specific basket. A nominally 58 mm portafilter does not guarantee compatibility with every precision tamper.
Important: This is the 58.35 mm version, not the 53.35 mm version intended for certain 54 mm Sage/Breville baskets.
