LELIT Coffee Leveler / Distributor – 57.35 mm – LELIT57
⚙️ A Flat, Repeatable Coffee Bed Before You Tamp
The LELIT 57.35 mm Coffee Leveler is designed to distribute ground coffee evenly across the surface of the basket before tamping.
Place it on the freshly dosed coffee.
Rotate.
Create a flat, consistent surface.
Then tamp.
Simple.
The leveler is made specifically for machines using the:
LELIT57 group
and combines a polished stainless-steel base with an adjustable black brushed-aluminium handle. Lelit describes the PLA472A as a pre-tamp leveler that distributes coffee evenly for improved tamping and extraction.

📏 57.35 mm – Made for LELIT57
This is the smaller Lelit leveler intended for:
LELIT57 filterholders and baskets
rather than the larger LELIT58 platform. Lelit officially lists the PLA472A for machines with its LELIT57 group.
The working diameter is approximately:
57.35 mm.
That precise fit helps the distributor reach close to the basket wall instead of leaving a large untouched ring of coffee around the edge.
☕ Compatible LELIT Machines
The important specification is:
LELIT57
rather than simply “57 mm”.
Typical compatible machines include models from Lelit’s 57 mm family such as:
☕ LELIT Anna
☕ LELIT Anita
☕ LELIT Grace
provided they use the LELIT57 group.
⚠️ Check Your Group Size
Not every Lelit espresso machine uses 57 mm equipment.
Machines with:
LELIT58
require the larger leveler instead.
For those machines, choose:
LELIT PLA482A / LELIT58 Coffee Leveler
rather than this PLA472A.
🔄 What Does a Coffee Leveler Actually Do?
After grinding into a portafilter, coffee rarely lands perfectly evenly.
You may have:
⛰️ A mound in the centre
↔️ More coffee on one side
🕳️ Small low spots
☕ Coffee piled unevenly around the basket
The leveler sits on top of the grounds and rotates across them.
Its lower surface moves coffee laterally and creates:
a flat upper coffee bed.
That gives your tamper a more consistent surface to press against.
Lelit says the objective is an even distribution of coffee grounds for optimal tamping and better extraction.
👃 CoffeeNose – Leveling Is Not the Same as Tamping
This distinction matters.
A distributor:
↔️ redistributes coffee.
A tamper:
⬇️ compresses the coffee puck.
For a normal espresso workflow, we recommend:
Grind → distribute → tamp → brew
rather than treating the leveler as a complete replacement for a proper tamper.
Lelit itself describes the tool as a:
pre-tamp leveler.
🌀 And It Doesn't Replace WDT Either
Another useful distinction.
A rotating leveler mainly works on the:
top surface.
A WDT tool works deeper inside the coffee bed.
WDT can help:
🌀 Break up clumps
↔️ Redistribute coffee internally
🕳️ Reduce hidden density differences
☕ Prepare the puck before leveling
So for a more thorough puck-preparation workflow:
1.
🥤 Dose into the basket.
2.
🌀 WDT.
3.
⚙️ Level lightly.
4.
🔘 Tamp.
That gives each tool a clear job.
📐 Adjustable Height
The PLA472A has an:
adjustable working height
so you can adapt the distributor to the amount of coffee in your basket.
This matters because different recipes may use:
🫘 Different doses
🧺 Different baskets
📏 Different puck depths
You do not want the leveler set so deep that it heavily compresses the coffee before tamping.
👃 CoffeeNose Tip – Don't Set It Too Deep
A distributor should primarily:
level.
Not:
tamp with rotating blades.
If you set the leveler very deep, it can already compress the top of the puck.
That may:
⚠️ Change puck density
⚠️ Push coffee unevenly
⚠️ Make your final tamp less predictable
Start shallow.
Let the tool just engage the coffee sufficiently to flatten the surface.
Then use your tamper for the actual compression.
🔄 How to Use It
A simple workflow:
1. Grind
Dose your coffee into the basket.
2. Distribute internally
Use WDT if required.
3. Place the leveler
Set it gently on top of the coffee.
4. Rotate
Turn the tool a few times.
No need for excessive force.
5. Remove
You should now see a relatively flat coffee bed.
6. Tamp
Tamp straight and consistently.
7. Brew
Watch the extraction and, more importantly:
taste.
⚫ Black Brushed-Aluminium Handle
The upper section uses:
black brushed aluminium
with the LELIT logo and adjustment markings.
Lelit also incorporates an anti-slip surface treatment for a secure grip while rotating the distributor.
It gives the tool a reassuringly solid feel without needing a large conventional tamper handle.
🔩 Polished Stainless-Steel Base
The coffee-contact surface is:
polished stainless steel.
A sensible material for a barista tool because it is:
💪 Durable
☕ Suitable for repeated coffee contact
🧼 Straightforward to keep clean
✨ Resistant to everyday wear
The polished finish also makes loose coffee easier to wipe away after use.
🇮🇹 Designed & Made in Italy
Lelit states that its products in this accessory range are:
designed and made in Italy.
A small accessory, but made to match the Lelit ecosystem rather than being a generic 57 mm tool with an approximate fit.
🆚 LELIT57 vs LELIT58 Leveler
Choosing the right one is simple.
| | PLA472A | PLA482A |
| Platform | LELIT57 | LELIT58 |
| Approx. diameter | 57.35 mm | 58.55 mm |
| Adjustable depth | ✅ | ✅ |
| Black aluminium handle | ✅ | ✅ |
| Stainless base | ✅ | ✅ |
| Use | Pre-tamp distribution | Pre-tamp distribution |
Lelit officially makes both versions for its two portafilter-group families.
Important
Don't buy the 58 mm version because:
“58 sounds almost the same.”
It won't fit a LELIT57 basket.
🥤 Cross-Sell – Dosing Cup
A dosing cup makes the start of the workflow cleaner.
Especially when single dosing.
Use:
Grinder
⬇️
Dosing cup
⬇️
Portafilter basket
⬇️
WDT
⬇️
LELIT leveler
⬇️
Tamper
This lets you transfer the complete ground dose into the basket with considerably less mess.
🌀 WDT Tool
If your grinder produces clumps or your coffee lands unevenly, add a proper WDT tool.
WDT works:
inside the coffee bed.
The leveler works mainly:
across the top.
Used together they can create a more controlled workflow.
But don't turn puck preparation into a ritual involving fourteen accessories.
Use each tool because it solves a real problem.
🔘 57.35 mm Tamper
After leveling, you still need to tamp.
For LELIT57, use a correctly sized:
57.35 mm tamper
for a close fit within the basket.
A well-fitting tamper helps reduce the untamped ring that can remain around the basket wall when using a tool that is substantially undersized.
⚖️ Cross-Sell – Espresso Scale
A perfect-looking puck is meaningless if your espresso recipe changes every shot.
Use a scale for:
🫘 Dose in
for example:
16.0 g
and:
☕ Espresso out
for example:
36 g.
Then use time and taste to understand what happened.
Consistent puck preparation only becomes really useful when the rest of the recipe is consistent too.
Want to see what your puck preparation is doing?
A bottomless portafilter can expose:
💦 Spraying
↔️ Uneven flow
🕳️ Channeling
☕ Asymmetrical extraction
much more clearly than a closed spouted portafilter.
Lelit offers dedicated LELIT57 bottomless filterholders for compatible machines.
But remember:
A bottomless portafilter is a diagnostic tool.
A beautiful extraction video is not the final objective.
The objective is:
delicious espresso.
👃 CoffeeNose – Don't Chase Instagram Extractions
You can make an espresso that looks:
✨ perfect
on camera and tastes:
😐 disappointing.
And you can make one with a slightly imperfect visual flow that tastes fantastic.
Use visual information to diagnose:
🌀 Distribution
⚙️ Grind
🔘 Tamping
🧺 Basket filling
but make the final judgment with:
your tongue.
🧼 Cleaning & Maintenance
The leveler regularly comes into contact with:
☕ Ground coffee
🟤 Coffee oils
🌪️ Fine particles
so keep the base clean.
After use:
- Brush or wipe away loose coffee.
- Wipe the stainless base clean.
- If required, use a slightly damp cloth.
- Dry before storing.
Avoid allowing wet coffee residue to remain trapped around the adjustable sections.
CoffeeNose Tip
Don't immerse the entire adjustable aluminium tool in aggressive espresso-machine cleaner.
A barista accessory needs cleaning.
It does not need to spend the night in a chemical bath.
🫘 Coffee Pairing – CN Chocolaty & Nutty
Want an easy espresso to dial in while refining puck preparation?
Try:
with a flavour direction around:
🍫 Milk chocolate
🌰 Nuts
🍮 Caramel
🍯 Brown sugar
🍰 Fudge
Excellent for:
☕ Espresso
🥛 Cappuccino
🤎 Flat white.
🍮 VC – Vanilla & Caramel
Another forgiving espresso profile:
Think:
🌼 Vanilla
🍮 Caramel
🍯 Sweetness
☕ Round body
A great coffee for learning whether changes in:
⚙️ grind
🌀 distribution
🔘 tamp
are actually improving your cup.
🍓 FJ – Fruity & Juicy
Ready for something more revealing?
Try:
as a modern espresso.
Fruit-driven coffees can make differences in extraction more obvious.
When the shot becomes more even, you may perceive improvements in:
🍓 Fruit clarity
🍯 Sweetness
⚖️ Balance
👅 Finish.

❤️ Why We Like It at WB.coffee
A coffee distributor isn't magic.
It will not fix:
❌ Bad coffee
❌ A poor grinder
❌ The wrong grind size
❌ An inconsistent dose
But it can remove one annoying variable:
an uneven surface before tamping.
We like the Lelit version because it is made specifically around the LELIT57 platform, rather than being a vaguely labelled “57 mm” accessory.
The:
📏 close 57.35 mm fit
📐 adjustable depth
🔩 stainless base
⚫ aluminium grip
make it a neat upgrade for Anna, Anita, Grace and other compatible LELIT57 setups.
CoffeeNose verdict 👃
Our preferred sequence is:
Dose → WDT if needed → lightly level → tamp → brew → taste.
Don't push the distributor so deep that it becomes a second tamper.
And don't spend five minutes preparing a puck that you're going to extract in 30 seconds.
Consistency is useful.
Ritual for the sake of ritual isn't.
