⚖️ Brew-by-Weight
Let the Machine Stop at the Target Espresso Weight
One of the most important upgrades to the current Linea Mini is Brew-by-Weight compatibility.
Pair the machine with a compatible La Marzocco Connected Scale, choose a target beverage weight and the system can automatically stop brewing when the desired espresso yield is reached. La Marzocco currently allows two programmable yield targets plus continuous/manual brewing through its connected workflow.
For example:
☕ House espresso
18 g coffee → 38 g espresso
🍓 Modern single origin
18 g coffee → 45 g espresso
🥛 Milk-drink recipe
19 g coffee → 38 g espresso
Instead of staring at the scale waiting to stop the paddle yourself, the machine handles the repetitive part.
You concentrate on:
⚙️ Grind
🌀 Distribution
🔘 Tamping
👅 Taste
🥛 Milk
⚠️ The Scale Is Optional
This distinction should be very clear on the webshop.
The Linea Mini is:
✅ Brew-by-Weight compatible
but the required connected scale is:
❌ Not built into the machine.
Without the compatible scale, you can still brew manually using the paddle and built-in shot timer.
Add the scale when you want automated beverage-weight control.
👃 CoffeeNose – Weight In + Weight Out
This is where the Linea Mini becomes particularly interesting when paired with a Grind-by-Weight grinder.
Imagine:
⚖️ Grinder
Automatically delivers:
18.0 g
⬇️
☕
Linea Mini + Connected Scale automatically delivers:
40.0 g espresso
Now two critical recipe variables are controlled by weight.
That does not automate flavour.
It automates repeatability.
You still decide whether that 18 → 40 recipe actually tastes good.
And that's exactly how automation should work.
💧 New Two-Valve Pre-Infusion System
The reimagined Linea Mini received an entirely new two-valve pre-infusion architecture, designed to provide softer initial puck saturation and incorporating a self-cleaning flow restrictor.
This matters because the first few seconds of an espresso extraction are incredibly important.
A dry puck initially contains:
🫘 Coffee particles
💨 Trapped gas
🔬 Small density differences
🌀 Potential weak spots
Allowing the puck to saturate more gently can help reduce the tendency for water to immediately exploit those weak areas.
💧 Pre-Brew vs Pre-Infusion
The Linea Mini gives you two related but distinct possibilities.
💧 Pre-Brew
With the internal reservoir, the pump introduces water for a programmed period and then pauses before full extraction.
The La Marzocco App allows the pump-on and pause times to be configured.
For example:
2 seconds ON
3 seconds OFF
then extraction.
This gives the puck time to absorb water before full brewing continues.
🚰 True Line-Pressure Pre-Infusion
When the Linea Mini is professionally plumbed into a filtered water supply, additional line-pressure pre-infusion functionality becomes available through the app.
That lets the puck saturate at incoming mains pressure before pump pressure is applied.
This is particularly interesting for:
🌸 Light roasts
💎 Dense specialty coffees
🧪 Longer pre-infusion experiments
⚙️ Fine espresso settings
🔀 Hybrid Mode
With a plumbed-in installation, the current Linea Mini also supports Hybrid Mode, combining traditional line-pressure pre-infusion with its newer brewing phases.
This gives the advanced home barista more control over how pressure develops before full extraction without turning the machine into an overly complicated profiling platform.
That's very La Marzocco.
Keep the main workflow simple.
Make deeper control available when you want it.
🕹️ Classic La Marzocco Paddle
The machine retains the familiar semi-automatic La Marzocco brew paddle.
Push it across:
☕ Brew.
Return it:
🛑 Stop.
The physical paddle references La Marzocco's commercial machines dating back decades, but underneath it now sits the modern electronic pre-infusion and connected brewing architecture.
We like this combination.
You still operate an espresso machine.
You are not standing in front of a touchscreen pretending to make coffee.
🎯 Easy Pump-Pressure Adjustment
The new Linea Mini makes static pump-pressure adjustment accessible without removing the machine's body panels.
That means advanced users can experiment more easily with different brewing pressures.
For example:
Traditional starting point
Around 9 bar
But you may deliberately experiment with:
📉 Lower pressure
🌸 Light-roasted espresso
🧪 Different basket geometries
💧 Longer brew ratios
Important
Lowering pressure is not automatically better.
Neither is 9 bar automatically perfect.
Pressure interacts with:
⚙️ Grind size
⚖️ Dose
🧺 Basket
🌀 Puck preparation
💧 Flow
🌡️ Temperature
Taste first.
Adjust with a reason.
👃 CoffeeNose Tip – Don't Adjust Everything at Once
The Linea Mini gives you plenty of variables.
That doesn't mean you should change all of them.
When dialing in a new coffee, begin with:
-
⚖️ Dose
-
⚙️ Grind
-
💧 Yield
-
👅 Taste
Then explore:
-
🌡️ Temperature
-
💧 Pre-brew
-
📈 Pressure
If you change grind, pressure, temperature, dose and pre-infusion simultaneously, you learn almost nothing from the result.
One meaningful variable at a time.
Taste.
Repeat.
🌡️ Dual Boilers + PID
The Linea Mini uses separate brewing and steam systems so espresso temperature and steam production do not have to compete for the same boiler. PID regulation provides precise brew-temperature control.
That translates into the workflow we expect from a serious espresso machine:
☕ Brew espresso
+
🥛 Steam milk
without waiting for a single boiler to change temperature modes.
🔥 3-Litre Steam Boiler
The current Linea Mini retains a substantial 3 litre steam boiler, giving it considerably more milk-steaming capacity than most domestic espresso appliances.
This is one of the reasons the Mini feels so close to commercial equipment when preparing:
☕ Cappuccino
🤎 Flat white
🥛 Latte
🍫 Mocha
🌱 Plant-based milk drinks
It is not simply a machine capable of steaming milk.
It is built to steam properly and repeatedly.
🥛 Cool-Touch Steam Wand + PEEK Tip
The current model receives a cool-touch steam wand with a PEEK polymer steam tip, designed to improve handling and reduce heat transfer to exposed components.
That means:
🔥 Less heat transferred to the exterior
🧼 Easier cleaning
🥛 Powerful milk texturing
🎨 Better everyday ergonomics
Still:
Wipe immediately after every milk drink.
Cool-touch does not mean:
milk-residue-proof.
🔥 Adjustable Steam Power
Through the connected app, the Linea Mini offers three steam-power levels, allowing you to tailor steam performance to your experience and milk quantity.
Lower
Useful for:
👨🎓 Beginners
☕ Small pitchers
🎨 More time to position the milk
Higher
Useful for:
🥛 Larger volumes
⚡ Faster steaming
👨🍳 Experienced users
This is a genuinely useful adjustment.
Commercial-level steam power is fantastic—until someone learning to steam 120 ml of milk discovers that the entire process is over in seconds.
⏱️ Built-In Shot Timer
The reimagined Linea Mini has an integrated shot timer, giving you immediate extraction-time feedback without relying entirely on a separate scale display.
Combine:
⏱️ Time
⚖️ Yield
👀 Flow
👅 Taste
for a much more complete picture of your extraction.
💡 Barista Lights
Dedicated LEDs illuminate the working area beneath the group.
Particularly useful when using:
🪞 A bottomless portafilter
⚖️ A small espresso scale
👀 Visual flow diagnosis
🌙 The machine in a darker kitchen
A small luxury.
One you quickly miss when returning to a machine without it.
📱 La Marzocco App
Not the Old Home App Anymore
Older product information frequently refers to the La Marzocco Home App.
La Marzocco has since discontinued the separate Home and Pro apps and moved their functionality into the unified La Marzocco App.
Depending on configuration, connected Linea Mini functions include:
🌡️ Brew temperature
🔥 Steam power
⚖️ Brew-by-Weight settings
💧 Pre-brew timing
🚰 Plumbed-in pre-infusion
🧼 Auto backflush
💧 Rinse duration
🌱 Standby behaviour
📊 Drink counter
⏰ Automatic operation scheduling
💧 Programmable Rinse Mode
A quick movement of the brew paddle can activate the machine's rinse function, while rinse duration can be configured through the app.
This gives you a fast way to rinse loose coffee residue after removing the portafilter.
Less guesswork.
Less unnecessary water.
Cleaner group.
🧼 Automatic Backflush
The connected Linea Mini provides an automatic backflush routine that guides the machine through the cleaning cycle. La Marzocco currently describes the automated cycle as taking roughly two minutes.
You'll still need:
⬛ Blind basket
🧼 Espresso-machine cleaner
💧 Fresh water
Automation makes the process easier.
It does not make coffee oils disappear without detergent.
🌱 Standby & Energy Management
Configurable standby allows the machine to reduce unnecessary energy use when it has been inactive, while connected scheduling can help make the machine ready around your normal coffee routine.
The steam boiler can also be switched off independently through connected control when you are only preparing espresso.
That's particularly sensible if you drink:
☕ Espresso
☕ Americano
☕ Filter alongside espresso
and don't need several litres of steam capacity heated all day.
🎨 Della Pietra Curve
The redesign also changes the Linea Mini aesthetically.
The Della Pietra Curve softens and modernises the familiar Linea silhouette while maintaining the visual connection to La Marzocco's commercial machines. Soft-touch controls further change the tactile interaction with the machine.
It remains unmistakably a Linea.
Just slightly less industrial.
🏗️ Commercial Machine DNA
The current Mini incorporates a group cap inspired by La Marzocco's commercial espresso machines, while the overall machine retains the familiar dual-boiler, integrated-group philosophy that made the original Mini successful.
This is important to the product positioning.
The Linea Mini is not designed to emulate a café machine cosmetically.
Its appeal has always been that it behaves much more like one.
💧 Reservoir or Plumbed-In
The integrated water reservoir holds:
2.5 litres
so a permanent water connection is not required.
For a permanent installation, the machine can also be configured for mains water with the appropriate optional plumbing solution.
Plumbing in also unlocks the more advanced line-pressure pre-infusion possibilities.
⚠️ Water Treatment Matters
If you plumb a Linea Mini directly into the water supply, do not connect it blindly to untreated mains water.
We recommend measuring:
💧 General hardness
⚗️ Alkalinity
🧂 Chloride
📊 Conductivity
🧪 pH
and choosing water treatment accordingly.
The objective isn't simply:
“remove all minerals.”
Coffee requires useful mineral content for flavour.
The objective is water that is:
☕ Good for extraction
🛡️ Safe for the machine
📊 Consistent
♻️ Economical to treat
For a machine at this level, proper water treatment is part of the installation—not an optional afterthought.

⚖️ La Marzocco Connected Scale
If you're buying the current Linea Mini, this is one of the accessories that genuinely changes what the machine can do.
Without it:
🕹️ Start manually
⚖️ Watch your separate scale
🛑 Stop manually
With connected Brew-by-Weight:
🕹️ Start
⚖️ Machine monitors beverage weight
🛑 Extraction automatically stops at your programmed yield
That's not just convenient.
It makes recipe reproduction easier for:
👨👩👧 Multiple users
☕ Busy mornings
🫘 Different espresso recipes
🎓 Training environments
La Marzocco confirms the scale is what enables automatic target-weight stopping.
⚙️ Grind-by-Weight Grinder
Brew-by-Weight becomes even more satisfying with weight-based grinding.
Excellent partners include:
Integrated Grind-by-Weight combined with Ceado's low-retention XB50 blind burrs.
65 mm flat burrs with Grind-by-Weight.
Commercial-style Grind-by-Weight workflow.
Then your recipe can become:
18.0 g IN → 40.0 g OUT
automatically.
The grinder controls the dry dose.
The Linea Mini controls the beverage.
You control the taste.
🧲 Magnetic Puck Screen 58.5 mm
The 0.2 mm Magnetic Puck Screen works beautifully with professional 58 mm basket systems.
It can help:
💧 Spread initial water more evenly
🫧 Support consistent pre-infusion
🧼 Keep the shower screen cleaner
♻️ Reduce unnecessary flushing
And because it's magnetic:
🧲 Remove it before knocking out the puck.
No burned fingertips.
No digging through the knock box.
🌀 Puck Preparation
A Linea Mini can deliver remarkably stable water and pressure.
That only makes poor puck preparation more obvious.
Complete the setup with:
⭕ Dosing funnel
🌀 Duomo WDT tool
🔘 Precision tamper
🧺 Precision basket
🧲 Puck screen
⚖️ Dosing scale
Remember
Brew-by-Weight fixes the target yield.
It does not fix channeling.
The automatic backflush cycle makes cleaning easier.
You still need an appropriate espresso-machine detergent to remove coffee oils.
Use Cafetto EVO with the supplied blind basket according to the machine and cleaner instructions.
Coffee oils eventually become:
👃 Rancid
🍂 Stale
😖 Bitter
A €5,000+ espresso machine deserves better than yesterday's coffee oil sitting inside the group.
For an easy-to-dial house espresso:
CN – Chocolaty & Nutty
Expect a flavour direction of:
🍫 Milk chocolate
🌰 Nuts
🍮 Caramel
🍯 Brown sugar
🍰 Fudge
It has enough body and sweetness to work beautifully both black and through milk.
If your Linea Mini spends much of its life producing cappuccino and flat white, try:
VC – Vanilla & Caramel
Smooth.
Sweet.
Approachable.
Excellent with textured milk.
🍓 Then Explore Modern Espresso
Once you're comfortable with the machine, move towards coffees where the pre-infusion, temperature and ratio controls become more interesting:
🍓 FJ – Fruity & Juicy
🍓 Kenya Currant Crush
🌸 Ethiopia Guji Dimtu
💎 Guatemala Geisha – Finca Inferno
🍊 Fernando Díaz Orange Bourbon
🍍 Pineapple Express
The Linea Mini has enough thermal and workflow consistency to make those recipe experiments meaningful.

❤️ Why We Like the New Linea Mini at WB.coffee
The original Linea Mini succeeded because La Marzocco did not try to create a normal domestic appliance.
They shrank the philosophy of a commercial espresso machine.
The reimagined Mini keeps that strength while addressing several things modern home baristas genuinely wanted.
⚖️ Brew-by-Weight
We already develop espresso recipes using mass.
Letting the machine stop by beverage weight makes sense.
💧 Better Pre-Infusion
Especially useful as home espresso moves towards lighter roasts and more demanding coffees.
🎯 Accessible Pressure Adjustment
You can experiment without dismantling the machine.
⏱️ Shot Timer
Obvious.
Useful.
Finally integrated.
🧼 Better Cleaning Workflow
Programmable rinse plus auto backflush makes proper maintenance less tedious.
📱 Connected Control Without Replacing Physical Controls
You can configure the technical stuff in the app.
But when you actually make espresso?
You still move a paddle.
We like that balance.
Most importantly, the new features don't turn the Linea Mini into a gadget.
Underneath it is still:
🔥 a serious steam boiler
🌡️ stable brewing architecture
☕ a traditional portafilter
🕹️ a physical paddle
🔧 serviceable espresso-machine engineering
The electronics help you repeat what matters.
They don't stand between you and making coffee.
CoffeeNose verdict 👃
Pair it with a good Grind-by-Weight grinder and the Connected Scale and you can automate:
dose in → espresso out
with remarkable consistency.
But the best feature is still the same one the original Linea Mini had:
it gets out of the way and lets you make espresso.
